Applicants are required to be aged 18 or above and are highly interested in the study of theatre performance. Priority will be given to applicants who have received some theatre training. Selection is by audition.

Students will be awarded a certificate in theatre performance on completion of the course. Outstanding students will be promoted to the second year, namely, Certificate Course in Theatre Performance 2 (2022/23).

Tuition Fees 
$30,000 annually to be paid in 4 installments.
A reduction will be given to CSSA recipients who pass the audition.

First installment: $7,500
Deadline for payment: 17 September 2021

Notification of Acceptance

After two rounds of auditions, successful applicants will be officially notified on or before 10 September, 2021.  To secure a place, the applicant must pay before 17 September and submit the payment proof to Theatre Horizon. Payment later this date will not be accepted. The rest of the tuition fees will be collected after the showing and assessment of Term one. Anyone who fail this term will be asked to leave the course. Neither will they need to pay the rest of the tuition, nor will they be refunded in part nor in whole.

Theatre Horizon reserves the rights to alter events, teachers or performers. Please refer to the latest version of the course contents.

A Course in Theatre Performance which spans 2 years

This two-year course in theatre performance is conceived by Chan Chu-hei, Artistic Director of Theatre Horizon, with Mr. Chan as the Head Teacher. His training system, known as An Actor's Box, is the result of years of practice as an actor, theatre director and educator. He added story-telling, cultural studies, literature and art appreciation, etc, in order to create a perfectly balanced training that improves one's character, cultivates one's artistic sensitivity, and by means of various disciplines and genres, enhances one's creative mind. International artists will be invited to be guest teachers to share their expertise in intensive workshops so that students can broaden their horizons before setting out on their artistic journeys.

Course Outline

Year One -  Preparation Year

Contents - 'An Actor's Box' training system (Stage 1), Movement and Voice - understanding one's own body and voice, Cultural and Performance Studies, Public-speaking and Literature Appreciation, The Classics, Story-telling, Stage Combat, Aesthetics and Appreciation of Film, World Theatre Performance Workshops.

The opportunity to perform in Theatre Horizon's production of "Memory of Water"  of the 4th edition of the 'Asian Theatre 5-Year Symbiosis."

Year Two - Creation and Practical

Contents - 'An Actor's Box' training system (Stage 2)、Movement and Voice - understanding one's own body and voice, Script-writing, World Theatre Performance Workshops.

Outstanding students may have the opportunity to perform in Theatre Horizon's production of  Chekhov's 'The Cherry Orchard' starring Patra Au, Luther Fung, Lai Chai-ming and Samantha Tse.
